With the addition of the ten-person strong team from the former Capital H Group in late 2009, BPI group added extensive capabilities in organizational effectiveness and learning in all of our locations. Given this deep focus, we interviewed the team, led by Courtney Mohr and Amy Dordek, to glean their perspectives on what's keeping HR leaders and CEOs up at night. To learn more, click here. |

BPI group Celebrates Three Years in the U.S.
The year 2007 was an important year for BPI group. Through our acquisition of SSP, a well regarded coaching and transition firm based in Chicago, we took a significant first step toward our goal of building a strong US marketplace presence. Although we have been a global human resources and management consulting firm for some time, we knew the next step was to come to America. Since 2007, we have grown and expanded in the US, adding global capabilities to our strong reputation in Chicago. Key highlights are provided below: Growth in Practice Areas
BPI group has four key practice areas that provide custom solutions for our clients focused on Organization Excellence, Team Excellence, Leadership Excellence, and Individual Excellence. These practice areas consist of: Career Transition. We continue to focus on high touch solutions for our clients related to executive, individual and group transition coaching. Our transition practice more than doubled between 2007 and 2009, reflecting our commitment to this practice group. Read more in the article below on how we need to re-think traditional outplacement.
Executive and Leadership Solutions. This practice group focused on executive coaching, executive career and life planning, and leadership and team development. Click here to visit the new global website for Executive Advisory Services, a standalone team within the Executive and Leadership Solutions practice.
Organization Effectiveness and Talent Management. With the addition of key team members from the former Capital H Group, BPI group possesses significant capabilities in organization design and optimization, learning, and talent management. Read more about what this team is hearing from their clients.
Talent Acquisition. Through our sister company Grant Alexander, we offer executive search, professional search and niche professional interim solutions. Visit us at www.grantalexanderus.com. Growth in Markets
We have also expanded geographically, opening offices in Milwaukee, New York, Denver, and LA. Also in Atlanta, we acquired ExecuTrack, a high end niche coaching and learning innovation firm led by Steve Spires, which formed the base for BPI group's Southeast presence. We also have forged a formal alliance with Verity Filion in Toronto and Montreal, with offices across central and western Canada.
Plans for the Future While we will continue to grow in the US, we will retain our local feel and niche touch. Providing leading edge thinking and custom solutions that meet the needs of individuals and organizations is the hallmark of BPI group globally, including in the US. We continue to see changes - often dramatic - in labor markets and, by extension, in the workplace. In the context of this "new normal", we believe that it's time for a new approach to people issues. The "same-old, same-old" will no longer work. Read more in the articles in this edition and subsequent issues of BPI group Insights.

Comings & Goings:
"Farewell" to Paul Schneider
We want to let you know that Paul Schneider is leaving BPI group, effective October 11, 2010.
As you know, Paul co-founded Chicago-based Scherer Schneider Paulick (SSP) in the late 1990's, which was acquired on October 11, 2007 by BPI group. Along with Jay Scherer, Tom Paulick and later, Kevin Pallardy in St. Louis, Paul helped to develop a great reputation for SSP whose legacy we are proud to build upon as BPI group North America. We owe a great deal of our success today to Paul's efforts.
Please know that you are in good hands - fellow partners Jay Scherer, Kevin Pallardy, and Tom Paulick - each remain available and dedicated to serving you. By now, you know we have a terrific client relationship team in place with Amy Dordek at the helm in Chicago and Milwaukee. Patricia Siderius remains in charge of our national Career Transition business, and will continue to deliver the high touch services we are known for. And Jennifer Benskin, currently Executive Vice President, will lead Grant Alexander effective October 12.
BPI group is thriving and continuing to grow. Over the past three years we have significantly grown our geographical footprint, and have expanded our coaching, talent management, and human capital capabilities to meet your needs.
We hope you will join us in wishing Paul all the success he deserves in his future endeavors. And thank you for your continued support of BPI group as we continue to expand our business.

The BPI Institute for Leadership
The BPI Institute for Leadership was founded in Paris in 2007 and is BPI group's research and innovation arm. The Institute's primary purpose is to conduct research and build innovative practices in leadership, change management, talent management, and organization effectiveness. Our activities are funded by BPI group and not by any business, government, or other institution.
The focus and hallmark of the Institute is a balanced view of human and economic factors in achieving business results. Current and past areas of focus for our research has included: the relationship between the employee and the company; generational considerations and leadership, tomorrow's leader, future executive coaching practices, leadership adaptability, and individual success in a changing marketplace. We have recently published important global (14 countries) survey results on leadership and new technologies, how employees assess their managers, and how leaders are dealing with the economic crisis.
The BPI Institute for Leadership is now co-located in Paris and Chicago, and is staffed by a team of BPI consultants, plus selected partners including a cadre of Ph.D. students conducting research on relevant leadership topics.

Taking the "Out" out of Outplacement
The concept of Outplacement was introduced in the US about fifty years ago. Industry pioneers took expertise they had accumulated in assisting WWII veterans reenter the workplace and, in the sixties, expanded those services to consult with corporations in the midst of downsizing. A lot has changed in the world of work these last fifty years, which, in our opinion, warrants a fresh, new look at outplacement. In fact, we're advocating taking the "out" out of "outplacement". The last two years have been challenging for all industries. Many of our readers have faced difficult decisions as their companies have restructured and right-sized. How has your company dealt with the challenges of ensuring that you have enough of the right talent to run your business?
Gary Newman: We are fortunate that our business model is fairly recession-proof compared to most businesses so that we were not significantly affected by the recession. As a result we were able to avoid workforce reductions due to reduced business and did not make reductions to any benefits or eliminate broad-based merit increase programs.
