Great blog post. You reference the creation of informal networks that Tushman and O'Reilly speak of in their book "Winning Through Innovation." My organization and I have done a lot of work in creating and building successful networks in large organization like UBS and American Express.

The next step is to make these "informal" networks more organized and wrapped around some type of process that allows for scalability. The Networlding process I co-created with the CMO of Motorola and then Office Depot has been licensed by places like Yale University allows the unique cross between informal yet powerful, collaborative networks.

For anyone seeking more information, we provide a free e-book on our blog at www.networlding.com. The work I have done is also showcased in a book I co-authored with the past Chief Knowledge Officer of UBS, Steve Benton, who also works with me now. That book was called "The Wisdom Network." Thanks again for recognizing the connection between innovation and the power of successful internal networks.
